The Confederation of Indian Industry and Commerce (CII) is praising the latest suggestion to decriminalize wagering on sporting events within India. This proposal originates from a panel overseen by Justice R.M. Lodha. The CII has long championed this shift, contending that a controlled betting sector would generate substantial income that could be utilized to enhance athletic venues and stimulate travel. They highlight international examples where sports wagering and gaming frequently contribute to philanthropic endeavors and bolster the growth of athletics. Nevertheless, the CII stresses the significance of conferring with stakeholders in the realm of sports before any legislation is presented to Parliament. This appeal for meticulous deliberation arises from a 2015 controversy where the proprietors of two cricket clubs, Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals, were penalized due to their participation in betting on games.
