The Dutch Gaming Authority, known as the KSA, declared on June 16th that it has started to implement a prohibition on the use of prominent figures in gambling promotions.
The KSA stressed that it will meticulously oversee adherence to the ban and take immediate action against any breaches.
Prominent figures encompass individuals who hold a certain level of fame, such as models, social media influencers, or athletes.
Since the commencement of the Netherlands’ regulated online gambling market last October, there has been ongoing national discourse regarding online gambling advertising.
In January, the KSA indicated that it would take a firm stance against advertising, and in February, the KSA issued warnings to operators after the regulator discovered evidence that three operators were planning to advertise through platforms primarily used by minors.
In March, Dutch Minister for Legal Protection, Frank Weverwind, mentioned the ban on prominent figures as a commitment to establishing more stringent advertising rules.
Just a few days after the new regulations came into effect, KSA chairman Rene Jansen questioned the gambling industry’s ability to regulate itself.
