The Belgian Gaming Authority and the Jupiler Pro League, Belgium’s leading football association, have joined forces to develop new marketing regulations. These regulations aim to promote accountable gambling and include a prohibition on collaborations with operators not approved by the Authority.
The complete guidelines haven’t been unveiled, but the Authority and the League have stressed that operators cannot incorporate elements that encourage wagering in their communications. Moreover, they’ve explicitly forbidden advertising wagers “during specific stages of the match,” although they haven’t specified which types of wagers this pertains to.
Furthermore, operators without a Belgian permit are not permitted to sponsor clubs, and all sponsors must report to the Authority.
“Every new partnership will be revealed to the Gaming Authority,” the League and the regulator stated. “The Gaming Authority will also inform the Jupiler Pro League and clubs when operators break the rules or lose their permit, so further action can be taken.”
An independent Integrity Committee will also be formed, consisting of representatives from academia and the sporting realm.
The group will oversee the club’s regulations and propose methods to make sports more equitable.
The association and the group stated they believe it’s crucial to go beyond simply complying with the law to ensure the safety of individuals.
“The primary concern when discussing gambling and wagering is safeguarding consumers,” they stated. “Preventing individuals from engaging in excessive gambling is essential. That’s why the gambling authority and professional leagues aim to exceed legal requirements.”
