The Golden State’s mid-term elections are underway, with sports wagering propositions on the voting slate. California residents are casting their votes on two sports betting propositions, Measure 26 and Measure 27.
Measure 26, supported by the California tribes, would make sports betting legal at tribal casinos and racetracks. It would impose a 10% levy on earnings generated from such activities. Measure 27, backed by the commercial sector, would allow online sports betting. It would cost $100 million to enter the market, limiting entry to the largest operators.
A survey conducted by the University of California, Berkeley, indicates that both proposals are likely to be rejected. 31% of respondents favored Measure 26, while 42% opposed it. Support for Measure 27 was even lower, with 27% in favor and 53% against.
